Rainy Monday

Today is going to be a rainy blah Monday so I wanted to have a little fun. I looked for some color and tried to mix and match items a little. I think I turned out a cute outfit, though maybe the skirt is a tiny bit short. Oh well, I'm rocking it!

Sweater: Old Navy, $24
Denim Mini: Mossimo for Target, $25
Tights: Hue, $15
Socks: Target, $5
Boots: Charles David, $250

Pants!!! I love them!

Someone commented that I should return these pants and I thought about it, but I'm soooooo glad I didn't! I love these. Not my best photo, but the pants are great. They are loose and well made and the taper at the end is perfect. I feel very chic in them.

The fact that i even bought them was pretty out of character. I pulled them off the rack at the last minute and figured I try them on at home. Normally I wouldn't even look at pants like these for fear they'd make my butt look too big. But they don't, so I'm chalking this experience up to Risk = Reward.

Since they are a new shape for me, I'm looking forward to creating different looks for them. Yay!

Blouse: Banana Republic, $60 a few years ago.
Trousers: Talla by Habitual, $198
Shoes: Sally Wedges by Tory Burch, $268

What do you think of the pants? Any Suggestions on how to style them?

Tried to do a High-Low

Basically the High Low is taking a super basic piece of clothing - in this case the low priced Grey Tee (Gap, $25) and mix it with higher cost pieces - linen skirt and jewelry, colorful shoes.

I like it - I think it works. But I'm actually not wearing anything technically "High"

Skirt (Banana Republic, $35 on sale.)
Heels (Seychelles, $95)
Lovely stone necklace that was a gift...
Cartier Roadster watch - ok - that's high.

What do you think? Have you ever tried a High-Low look?

Costumey...not cute.

I was trying to be adventurous today, but I think it's a fail. Somehow it all just looks a little too costumey and not like something a real person wears. Or certainly not a stylish person. Oh well, I tried.

Black Capri's (Banana Republic, $90)
Black Tank (The Limited, $30)
Black Ballet Flats (Cole Haan, $138)
Silk Tunic (Kimichi Blue, $80)
Pink Obi Belt (Express, $40)

What's worn is worn - I'll try again tomorrow.

Shopping My Closet

This morning I had a little time to get ready (it's amazing what getting up on time can do for your morning) so I decided to shop my closet a little. I'm not sure I LOVE what I came up with but I think it's kinda cute and at least I'm trying new things, and hopefully learning.

Green Tank...unknown source, probably $20?
White Stretch Tee (Banana Republic, $30)
Double Belt (Banana Republic, $40)
Skinny Jeans (Banana Republic, $80)
Leopard peep toes (Steve Madden, $125)

This is how much Banana I have - I shop my closet and THREE items are from there. That store will haunt me forever!

Any thoughts on my outfit? Feedback is critical when I experiment - need to know if I got it right or wrong.

Speaking of Hats...

Eugenia Kim for Target is fantastic and cheap...but if you have a bigger budget or an event you need to look fabulous for, these hats are nothing short of AMAZING!

Thanks to my dear Kim, who showed me this site in the first place.

I feel good today!

I was going to be lazy dressing today - it was damp and overcast, I was late - but at the last minute I rallied and pulled together something that I thought was really New Yorky and cute!

The top is a black silk tunic that I usually wear over skinny jeans to go out, today I tucked it in to a Banana Republic slate blue skirt. Put on my grey structured heels and threw on a mixed metals necklace that I got at The Limited a year or so ago. Finished it off with a side braid. I rarely try anything with my hair but today it was too humid not to put it up and the outfit felt like it called for something more than a ponytail.

BR Skirt, $59
Kimichi Blue Silk Tunic, $80
Limited Necklace, $30
Nine West Shoes, $120
Kate Spade Purse, $450

What do you think?

Holiday Weekend - Monday

Was headed to a rooftop pool party with a super casual vibe so I wanted to reflect that. It was not a place to be overdressed - the pool was inflatable and people had super soakers. So I ended up mixing patterns to have a little fun.
This purple tank is from the Gap and i picked it up last summer for $40 tops. the Denim Skirt is also Gap I think, but I can't remember. Think it was around $70. I love the easy fit of this skirt, but it needed an ironing before I wore it. I couldn't be bothered so I wore it wrinkled and all.

White/Cork flip flops are from Banana Republic and are a year or two old. Probably $70.

I felt cuter than this picture looks - I need to get a new pose!

Trying something new.

Everything I'm wearing today exists in my closet, but I tried to create something new. Mainly this involved rolling up my skinny jeans and layering a tank over a tee, but hey...I tried. Kim actually asked me who made my skinny jeans and she takes the picture for this blog all the time so it must look a little new!!
The tank is one I usually wear to go out on a hot night. (Hot weather-wise, get your mind out of the gutter people!) The straps (which you can't see) are spaghetti thin and cross in the back, and the waist is very fluttery. It's soft and pretty, but I needed to get more wear out of it. This is my attempt to pull it into daytime. What do you think?

BR Skinny Jeans ($80)
BR Stretch tee ($40)
Trina Turk tank top ($198)
Cole Haan Bacara flats ($138)

Hey, not bad!

After yesterday's ho-hum chino disaster I was determined to find a "new" outfit in my closet. It was cold and I hadn't worn my suede boots in a bit so I started there. So over jeans so I grabbed the denim skirt and navy tights. Then, rustled through my closet half-dressed for about 15 minutes. Finally I grabbed a fitted brown t-shirt and my lavender cozy and a belt I've never worn. I really did figure it out as I went. especially the cozy. Not as easy to maneuver as the DKNY site makes it look.

In the end though, I actually like this outfit. I think it looks casual but somewhat citified.

Would love to hear your thoughts as this was a true fashion experiment!

Fitted Tee (BR, $35)
Cozy (DKNY, $195)
Denim Mini (Old Navy, $30)
Suede boots (Nine West, $50 on sale)
Belt - no idea when or where I bought it, but I like it!!

Weekend Looks

Two looks for Saturday. The day look I thought was cute and fun for running around SOHO. I took the photo with my coat on since that's how I'd be looking. Still too cool to take the jacket off.

Black Cords (BR, $80)
Turquoise Silk Tunic (Kimichi Blue, $60)
Black Ballet Flats (Cole Haan, $138)
Grey Twill Pea Coat (Victoria's Secret, $60)
Black Leather Bag (Kate Spade, $455)

For a party that evening, I had planned to wear a dress. As I was getting ready, I was stressed about running late and in the middle of drying my hair I thought, "fu*k it, I'm going to scrunch it up wet and let it go". It felt a little Debbie Harry so I totally flipped my look and ended up getting a TON of compliments at the party.

Black Silk Tunic (Silence + Noise, $80)
Skinny Jeans (BR, $80)
Gold Necklace (BR, $60)
Teal Suede Platforms (Seychelles, $95)

I was really pleased with this look. The hair is what gave it the attitude, but I think the whole thing worked. I will def do this again.

New Designer : Sretsis

New to me anyway. I'd never heard of Sretsis and their site seems to be defunct, but when you google them you get a lot of hits of celebs wearing this designer. Kim also has an owl print dress she posted on the Closet Case FB page that I just love. This dress had to make the blog because, well, I love a llama.

You can buy the line at a few online retailers and small boutiques. I must find out more about them. The pieces are really different to me. Worth looking at for a single standout piece to funk up your wardrobe.

Shop here, here, or here.

Inspired by my readers!

Today when I was getting dressed I reached for an old standby outfit that I've worn a million times. As I threw the potato sack on, I knew it would make a disappointing photo. So I found myself trying a new belt, then a different top, then changing my boots. I ended up shopping my closet and coming up with an outfit I've never worn before. I even got a compliment from my gay dermatologist. Doesn't get better than that!

Dress, Ann Taylor ($49 on sale)
Tissue Turtleneck. J. Crew ($38)
Seven Skinny Jeans ($198)
Charles David Boots ($250)
BR Equestrian Belt ($48)

Shopping my closet is fun. Not as fun as shopping in Bergdorf's closet, but still, fun.

I wonder what I'll come up with for tomorrow for the "Great Storm of '10" Wish me luck!
