Last Wednesday - Favorite dress

This dress is probably 4 years old and I still wear the hell out of it every winter. It's an I.N.C. dress from Macy's that I bought for about $60. Normally I'm not a fan of I.N.C. as their materials are poor and tend to make even the cutest items look cheap and hang poorly, but this dress seems to be the exception to the rule. It's also super easy to wear - just add tights and boots and you're out the door!

Sweater Dress: INC at Macy's, $60
Tights: Hue, $15
Boots: Steve Madden, $120
Necklace: One of a kind, a gift.

Military Monday

I swear these pants are so not me but I just love them. Today I pared them with a new silk top I got from Express in the style du jour: military. I'm really happy with it. Feels simple and sophisticated and on trend. And my inner voice is not chirping that the pants make me look fat. I can't really explain my love for these pants. They may not even be flattering, but I'm blinded! I think the gold accessories are essential to this look so I went bigger on those.

Silk Blouse: Express $70 New Purchase!
Denim pants: Habitual, $198
Gold Necklace: Banana R., $70
Wedges: Tory Burch, $265
Gold Oversized Watch: Michael Kors, $250

Milk was a bad choice!

It is so hot out today and I am running out of clothes that don't feel like clothes. I put this little number on - you've seen it before - and the black top is like a magnet for the heat. I was boiling waiting for the bus. The shoes are new though, my Enzo gladiators had seen way better days and these were on sale.

Club Monaco Skirt, $125
Black BR Tee, $35
Steve Madden Sandals, $40 on sale

Necklace is a Tahitian Pearl from my Mom's travels - goes perfectly with the skirt! Thanks Mom!

Feels like Fall Today.

With grey skies and a high of only 69, I pulled out the jeans today. Simple outfit, but flattering and cute in my opinion. My favorite part is the gold necklace I got at Banana Republic. They really rock it on the costume jewelry,

Tunic: Kimichi Blue at Urban Outfitters,$78 HA - they say it's a dress!
Layering Tank: The Limited, $25
Skinny Jeans, Banana Republic, $80
Necklace, Banana Republic, $50
Ballet Flats: Cole Haan, $138

I'm hoping it will warm up this week so I can show off some of my new Anthropologie purchases!!!

Third Chino Attempt...maybe the last???

I have been trying to make these chinos work but I'm not sure I ever will. So far I think this is my best attempt, but don't know if it's a chic as I want to be. My first attempt was too layered and my second attempt was just sloppy and unflatterning.

Kim, who photographed me today, likes this look. What do you think?

Skinny chinos (Banana Republic, $60)
White Tee (Ann Taylor, $35)
Cashmere Cardigan ($175), gold sandals ($79), Gold necklace ($60) all Banana Republic.
Hermes belt ($585)
Kate Spade bag ($495)

So let me know if these chinos are working, or if they need to go to June's Donation pile.

I feel good today!

I was going to be lazy dressing today - it was damp and overcast, I was late - but at the last minute I rallied and pulled together something that I thought was really New Yorky and cute!

The top is a black silk tunic that I usually wear over skinny jeans to go out, today I tucked it in to a Banana Republic slate blue skirt. Put on my grey structured heels and threw on a mixed metals necklace that I got at The Limited a year or so ago. Finished it off with a side braid. I rarely try anything with my hair but today it was too humid not to put it up and the outfit felt like it called for something more than a ponytail.

BR Skirt, $59
Kimichi Blue Silk Tunic, $80
Limited Necklace, $30
Nine West Shoes, $120
Kate Spade Purse, $450

What do you think?

Weekend Looks

Two looks for Saturday. The day look I thought was cute and fun for running around SOHO. I took the photo with my coat on since that's how I'd be looking. Still too cool to take the jacket off.

Black Cords (BR, $80)
Turquoise Silk Tunic (Kimichi Blue, $60)
Black Ballet Flats (Cole Haan, $138)
Grey Twill Pea Coat (Victoria's Secret, $60)
Black Leather Bag (Kate Spade, $455)

For a party that evening, I had planned to wear a dress. As I was getting ready, I was stressed about running late and in the middle of drying my hair I thought, "fu*k it, I'm going to scrunch it up wet and let it go". It felt a little Debbie Harry so I totally flipped my look and ended up getting a TON of compliments at the party.

Black Silk Tunic (Silence + Noise, $80)
Skinny Jeans (BR, $80)
Gold Necklace (BR, $60)
Teal Suede Platforms (Seychelles, $95)

I was really pleased with this look. The hair is what gave it the attitude, but I think the whole thing worked. I will def do this again.

Pretty things.

Love sparkly costume jewelry! Wish I could keep a ton around just to play with.

Fancy Schmancy

Headed for a lovely dinner at The Modern at the MOMA and wanted to dress the part, but it was also zero frickin' degrees out. Ended up in this purple satin sheath (The Limited, $90), a black cardigan (also The Limited, $60) and some black kitten heels (BCBG Generation $90).

The star of this outfit is the gold brooch necklace from Banana Republic (shocker). This was a trend last year that I was told by every magazine I could wear with a t-shirt, so I got one (about $138) but never really tried it. I think it works quite nicely here and it definitely jazzed my dress up.

Two things to note here: 1) While BR makes some bland basics, their costume jewelry for the last few years has been stellar. I love their pieces. They're inexpensive, well made and fun. 2) The Limited, a throw back to the mall shopping 80s, recently hired a new dress designer. In the last year I've purchased at least 6 fantastic dresses there and all were only $90. The rest of their clothes are still a little uninspired, but the dresses are worth a look. I always get compliments on them.
