Last Week's Wardrobe!

I was taking the pictures...just had zero time to post due to work. All of these outfits seem a little blah in retrospect. And it's certainly nothing new. Am I failing at my challenge? Or are these just comfy work clothes.

Also - the horse dress is not that unflattering. Just the angle - never shoot up!

Friday's dress.

Today's dress is another easy cotton number to beat the heat. This black dress is by Kimichi Blue and I got it at Urban Outfitters last year for around $80. Shoes are my Enzo Angiolini Gladiators, $89,

I LOVE this dress. It's modest and comfortable, and the neck and sleeves have a little retro flair. Coincidentally, Kim has this dress too.

Yay - Weekend!

Tried to do a High-Low

Basically the High Low is taking a super basic piece of clothing - in this case the low priced Grey Tee (Gap, $25) and mix it with higher cost pieces - linen skirt and jewelry, colorful shoes.

I like it - I think it works. But I'm actually not wearing anything technically "High"

Skirt (Banana Republic, $35 on sale.)
Heels (Seychelles, $95)
Lovely stone necklace that was a gift...
Cartier Roadster watch - ok - that's high.

What do you think? Have you ever tried a High-Low look?

Wednesday's Child

It was H.O.T. today so I went with a simple cotton shirt dress that would be cool and still look nice. This dress is a black Mossimo tie-waist shirt dress I got at Target awhile back for about $30-$40.

You may remember I have the same one in brown. No way I need both and the black feels cuter while the brown feels more like volunteer-zoo-worker-mom. Brown is headed to the donate pile.

Wore my Cole Haan gold hurache heels ($338) today to brighten up the black. Hilarious I wore the same shoes with the brown dress. I guess we do get into ruts! Could have used a big pop of jewelry though, don't cha think?

Rainy Monday

Getting hot and humid here in NYC so this was probably not the best outfit, but I was (say it with me) RUNNING LATE! It was along weekend and there was not much time for prep the night before but I feel like I did ok. At least looks somewhat put together!

Theory BF Blazer ($398)
BR Skinny Jeans ($89)
DKNY Twist Tee ($69 - major sale at 6pm.com)
Cole Haan Bacara Flats ($138)

Back from Vacation!

After hiking for 7 hours in the Andes for four days in a row, I fit in my Paige Denim jeans a little better so I thought I'd try them again today. I wanted to wear a pretty dress and heels after a week of looking like a crunchy granola girl, but the weather did not cooperate. Maybe Friday.

After getting home at 1am last night, I couldn't put to much effort in to today's outfit so I went with some standards that I think look good. Let me know what you think!

Paige Premium Denim ($198)
BR Mullberry Tank ($35)
Silence and Noise Tweed Jacket ($80)
Miz Mooz Brown booties ($78)

PS - the mother of pearl turtle brooch on the lapel was my grandmother's. I think it adds a nice touch!

The Shirt Dress

The shirt dress is a classic but can be hard to dress up since it's just one piece. Today, I tied the Chanel scarf Kim gave me along with the belt to give it some interest. The shoes are my Cole Haan gold hurrache pumps($338). Super comfy with the Nike air foot bed and the low heel. The dress is actually from Target (Merona, $25) and I have it in black as well. Kind of hard to go wrong with it!

Hey, not bad!

After yesterday's ho-hum chino disaster I was determined to find a "new" outfit in my closet. It was cold and I hadn't worn my suede boots in a bit so I started there. So over jeans so I grabbed the denim skirt and navy tights. Then, rustled through my closet half-dressed for about 15 minutes. Finally I grabbed a fitted brown t-shirt and my lavender cozy and a belt I've never worn. I really did figure it out as I went. especially the cozy. Not as easy to maneuver as the DKNY site makes it look.

In the end though, I actually like this outfit. I think it looks casual but somewhat citified.

Would love to hear your thoughts as this was a true fashion experiment!

Fitted Tee (BR, $35)
Cozy (DKNY, $195)
Denim Mini (Old Navy, $30)
Suede boots (Nine West, $50 on sale)
Belt - no idea when or where I bought it, but I like it!!

Skinny chinos - Strike TWO!

What a blah way to start the week! I tried the chinos($60) again with a different top and still no go. Last time all the fabric on top felt too flowy with the loose fit of the chinos (where does the skinny come in, BR?) so this time I kept it simple. Paired with my Kimichi Blue embroidered blouse ($80) and Cole Haan ballets ($138). I think you can tell by the look on my face in the photo that I am unhappy. Blergh!

Any tips? How do you wear chinos?

Tory Burch Tuesday

This little number was part of my ridiculous shopping trip in Nolita but I have to say I LOVE it. I stumbled on it while browsing through Tory Burch on eElizabeth St. First I tried on a sequin dress that looked like it fell out of Beyonce's closet, and then i saw this and it was just so me. The cherries are fun, the fit is great, and...it has POCKETS!

Wanted to mix it up in the shoe dept but was running too late to experiment much so I went with a safe option: Tory Burch Wedges in navy blue

Now if only I had though about some self tanner for my chalk-white legs!

Dress $395, Wedges $288. Both Tory Burch.

Friday with a Touch of Chanel

Feel like this backdrop is washing me out a bit so bear with me. Today really felt like spring and getting dressed was a little different. No boots necessary! Anyway, I was a little tired of jeans but it's still too chilly for a skirt, so I pulled out these olive/gray chinos that I have never worn. I had always imagined these with a t-shirt and flip flops for summer, but wanted to try making them cute for work. Did I succeed? What do you think?

Chinos (Banana Republic, $60)
White gathered shirt (BCBG, $80)
Lavender Cardigan/Cozy (DKNY, $195)
Purple Leather Wedges (Miz Mooz, $90)
Chanel Scarf (Birthday Gift from Kim = FREE)

Thoughts, opinions?

Rain is no excuse

But I'm using it anyway. The weather has been absolute crap for the last five days so I've been dressing a little sloppier and didn't have much to post. Today I'm flying for a business trip, so I wanted to wear something comfortable and layered. I didn't put too much effort in this morning, but I think the blazer takes if from ok to cute. I'm telling you...if you don't have a boyfriend blazer in your closet, you're missing out!

Blazer ($398, Theory)
Jeans ($160, Hudson)
Tunic ($58, Urban Outfitters)
Bacara flats ($138, Cole Haan)

Disco Friday!

Who says you can't wear sequins for day? No one actually. In fact I've read several times that sequins are okay at any time really, just in the right amounts. Today I have on a new sequin jacket, but since the color (grey) is somewhat conservative, I thought it would be cute for work. Kept the rest of the outfit simple and wore very little jewelry. The result was lots of compliments! Yay!

Sequin Jacket ($68, Urban Outfitters)
Grey Tee ($18, BR)
Grey/Black dip dye scarf ($40, BR)
Black pocket skirt ($68, BR)
Black Bacara flats ($138, Cole Haan)

All the mirrors in my house must be shrouded.

I could not hate what I'm wearing any more than I do right now. Ugh. Today's fashion statement is: "I am a mid-level clerk at a county office in Nowhere, Iowa and I have given up on life." Dull, frumpy, boring in every way. This outfit goes in the donate pile pronto!

BR top - $65 - two years ago - ill fitting, why do I keep coming back to it???)
BR cords - $89 - also ill-fitting. My friends said they look "comfy"! Kiss of death.
Zara cardigan - $60. Yawn.
Cole Haan Bacara flats in blue $138 - I'll be keeping these. It's not their fault.

Ugh. : (

Should it Stay or Should it Go?

Today's outfit was motivated primarily by my desire...no my absolute need... to walk to work. It's 70 and sunny and I'm falling in love with New York all over again. Flats were a must so I picked my comfy Bacaras and practically skipped to work.

Now, the other consideration was this tunic. I wear this a good deal. In winter with a turtleneck underneath and boots, and in spring over jeans It's about 2 years old and I got it on a trip to Target with Theresa. (T, do you still wear yours?) So my question to you is....is this not really worth keeping? I do get wear out of it, but should I? Is it special, or cute? Or does it scream "Art Teacher Smock"?

Let me know what you think - whatever my reader's say, will go.

Here's my outfit:

Mossimo belted Tunic ($30, Target)
BR Fitted Tee ($30)
BR light wash skinny jeans ($89)
Cole Haan Air Bacara Falts in blue ($138)

Better - and Fun!

SO much better than yesterday! I'm still out of town for business, but this looks cute and professional (Hey, I'm a creative. I can get away with this!) and the Lucky Strike Extra is that it will be ridiculously comfortable for my flight back.
The dress I've had for years. It's Tibi and was expensive, but with the pattern I just never feel like it's gone out of style. Looks nice belted over jeans as well. Two-for!! Plus it has pockets which I love. Hilariously this is a DRESS. If I wear this without tights or leggings it's total ass exposure. Who wears this as a dress???

Tibi Silk Tunic ($378)
Black Leggings ($40ish)
Cole Haan Bacara Flats ($138)

Side note: Tibi is known for great patterns. If you want to adda few unique pieces to your wardrobe, it's an excellent brand to shop.

Spring is here!!

Oh boy - 55 degrees and sunny. Awesome. This inspires me to go through my closet soon and purge the heavy winter stuff that I didn't wear and there's a lot of it. I'll do that soon. Now - Tuesday's outfit.

Silk embellished top ($80, Urban Outfitters)
Joe's Muse Jeans ($167)
Marc by Marc Jacobs Green two-tone heels I got 5 years ago from a commercial shoot for FREE! (Retailed $365)

Thought this was cute and simple, but missing the defined waist a belt can bring to it.

Any thoughts on how I could have made this better?

PS- Notice the gold bag? Happy Birthday to me!

Just like Wednesday...But Brown.

I guess this really is my go to look. Ugh. Need to get more creative.

Seven Skinny Jeans ($198)
Mossimo Tweed Jacket (Don't remember - but guessing $40)
Mossimo Teal Tulip Top (Don't remember - but guessing $25)
Nine West Boots ($50)

I am going to a party tomorrow night and I will definitely try to be more creative!

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Late again!

Just grabbed a never worn dress and threw it on. Figured if I didn't have time to be creative I could at least wear something I've never worn before.

BR Navy Silk Dress ($80)
BR Cashmere Cardigan ($158)
Miz Mooz Purple Wedges ($90)

Not spectacular, but better than a boring pair of jeans I hope.

I had fun closet shopping today....

This is a pretty simple outfit today but I had fun finding accessories. I really wanted to wear the grey boots today - normally I'd wear this outfit with black boots or ballets - and thought it was either a great match with the blue/grey skirt or a terrible one but went for it anyway. After digging through my closet though I found a belt that I've never worn that seemed to pull it all together. It's a leather one from Target - was probably $20 - and it's hung in my closet unworn for 18 months. The brushed nickel look of the belt hook seems to bring the grey boots in to the outfit and balance out. Or maybe I'm totally over-thinking it. : ) Either way I'm happy with the way I look and I've worn something I haven't before. Win-Win.

Here's the Rundown:
Michael Stars Turtleneck ($80)
BR Pocket Skirt ($60)
Steve Madden Grey Suede Boots ($120)
Target Belt ($20ish)

Love to hear opinions as always...
