More Tucker for Target

This dress was one of my Tucker purchases and I really like it. It felt a little bare for work, so I threw on a fitted navy tee and wore navy heels to match. Can't wait to wear thin in the winter with boots and tights and a big chunky sweater.

Navy Tee, Banana Republic, $35
Tucker for Target dress, $35
Tory Burch heels, $268

Thoughts? Has anyone else scored some Tucker pieces?

Romper!!!

I am a very lucky girl. A friend of mine in the fashion industry GIFTED me with this lovely DKNY romper (retail $295, but on sale at shopbop.com for $209) and I am thrilled. I've been wanting to try a romper but have been scared to throw down the cash for what may be a trend. This one is great for so many reasons... 1) it's red and I never buy red so this is a great way to try it 2) it's silk, so it draped like a dress 3) the pattern distracts from any bumps or bulges.

Since the pattern is so bold, I went with simple gold sandals (Banana Republic, $79), minimal jewelry, and my LV Manhattan bag ($1690) which goes with anything but the tan elements really compliments the tan in the romper.

I'm really liking this look....what do you think???

New Brand - Grass

I've never heard of the brand Grass, but I've been seeing it's pieces pop up in the magazines a lot lately and the prices are shockingly low. Did a little research and it looks like it's a new(ish) brand Macy's is carrying in their Junior's Department.

Granted, this blog is about spending my money on higher quality clothing, but when it comes to trends I try to buy cheap. That little Katy Perry look-a-like dress is fine for $59, as is the on trend scarf blouse for $42.

Fakey Fakerton.

You may recall a post a while back about a dreamy pair of Louboutin's that I could not afford at Barney's. (Read original post here.) Well, yesterday I was doing a search for them to see if they were, perchance, on sale. The short answer is NO.

The long answer is that I stumbled upon this site where they were $159. What? $585 at Barney's and only $159 here, plus free shipping and no sales tax?? Too good to be true? TOTALLY. Kim and I took a good look and feel fairly certain that this site sells nothing but fakes.

Now, here's my quandary: Do I buy the fakes or not??

There are some pretty solid arguments against it. It's totally unfair to the designer, it's stealing really and hurts the industry as a whole. On the other hand, maybe if Mr. Louboutin didn't charge $585 for shoes, people wouldn't be knocking them off.

Readers - What do you think??

Yummy Neutral

Gorgeous top in a trendy neutral. Satin can go day-to-night as well. DVF on sale - this is a steal that you can wear a million ways! Snap it up!

Four years old and a FIRST TIME WEAR!

Wow - I cannot believe I'm finally wearing this dress. I bought this dress about 4 years ago. it was one of the earlier Target Designer collaborations - with Proenza Schuler. It was priced at $39, I think, but I remember paying close to $100 on Ebay because I really wanted it. Then it sat in my closet for 4 years. super smart huh? The colors are a little wild but I like the navy piping - it seems to anchor it a bit. Paired it with my Tory Burch Wedges ($288 ) and called it a day.

What do you think?? Should it go in the donation pile, or become a summer staple??

PS - headed to Florida for a beachy weekend on Thursday - this may be a must pack.

All Black for New York

Now that I am no longer choosing an outfit based on what smells least like sweat and llama, I thought I'd have an all black New Yorker day to show my city how much I missed it! The answer is A LOT!

Black skinny zip jeans (American Apparel, $78)
Black silk tunic (Silence + Noise, $80)
Purple Wedges (Miz Mooz, $90)

A note on the jeans - these are cheap and they rock. The waist is hilariously high so you can't tuck in, but there's no chance of muffin top and they are comfy as hell. They also come in a huge array of colors and are cheap enough that you can be bold and try a hot pink or something!

Great Nude Shoe

Only $89 at Nine West and totally on trend. The wedge heel means it'll be super comfy too. If I wasn't ridiculously over budget for April (yes! already!) I would snap these up.

Today's outfit.

When I am running late, I am my own worst enemy. Today, with 10 minutes to get out the door, I decided to put on a dress I bought 6 months ago off a sale rack and have never worn before. So here it is...got it on sale at The Limited for about $30. Hope it doesn't look it. Add black leggings and my Naturalizer boots and I was out the door. I thought this was a fun outfit, but I may get the 'too young' comment again. Oh well, you only live once!!!

February's Purchases

I'm really happy with almost everything I bought this month. Most happy with the Kate Spade dress, least happy with the grey top which got mixed reviews and was a bit of an impulse purchase. At least it was only $68. So here's the recap:

Kate Spade dress (Super Sale! $198)
Kate Spade Lipstick top ($149)*
Tory Burch wedges ($288)*
Nine West Boots ($50 on Piperlime)
Paneled Sweater from Yamak (Annie c., $68)

* Price includes shipping

Total Spent: $753

Over by $3! Darn that grey top! But not too bad overall. I'm just happy to have my budget back! $75 for March - whee!

Mark your calendars!

March 7th... Jean Paul Gaultier for Target arrives in store and online.

I'm sailing! I'm sailing!

I have to say I am loving my outfit here. The dress is new and was a bit of an impulse buy, but I'm so happy I bought it. It's Kate Spade and was marked down to $190 from $535!!! Total steal!

Since it's freezing I had to winterize and added the cardigan (The Limited,$50 ) pink tights (Hue, $9) and a pair of Corso Como cage heels that I bought last spring for around $200 if I remember correctly.

I got a LOT of compliments on this outfit and felt stylish all day, and I know before this blog I never would have bought the dress (too dressy, when would I wear it?) or mixed it with such a bold color (would have done matchy-matchy accessories). To me this outfit represents progress, and that is a great thing.

A note on Corso Como shoes - they are well made and really comfortable. It's a new brand to me, but I now have 2 pairs due to the comfort factor. The heels in htis outfit are 4" but never felt like it.

A note on my budget - This dress put me over by $28 bucks, but I was under by $54 last month so it all evens out. No more shopping for me til March!

Thanks Target!

Today's outfit features a designer piece from Target's brilliant design-to-the-people series. This one by Anna Sui was only $50 and has lots of detail. I try to get at least one piece from each of their collections. I bought a dress from this collection that I forgot about until now - I'll be pulling that one out soon.

This top is completely sheer so I layered it with a cami from The Limited. I have one of their camis in every color and use them all the time - they are a good wardrobe staple at about $30 each. The trouser jeans are Editor Pants from Express that I bought FIVE years ago. I think I paid $70 for them and they have truly earned a place in my closet. I used to wear them all the time, but they've been forgotten this year with my skinny jeans. (Master of the Obvious, at your service.) Shoes are my Miz Mooz purple wedges ($90) that I so love, but after seeing htis picture I realize they are about an inch too high for these pants.

Oh well....worse things have happened to better people. Don't think anyone's going to yell "floods" as I walk down the hallway between classes.

AMAZING Jacket on Sale

This French Connection jacket is on sale online at Bloomingdale's and I think it's a great deal. This jacket shape is super hot right now. The white makes it fun for evening wear, and is also light enough you can wear it in the spring with your day wear too. It's a chic take on the boyfriend blazer trend and is the kind of piece you could wear a million different ways.

Snap it up while you can! Only $200!

Cozy on a Cold Friday

Today began with my dog's breakfast exploding in my microwave. Needless to say, it was not a great start and took some time to clean up so I didn't really want to spend a ton of time picking out an outfit. Lucky for me, I bought something yesterday so I didn't have to!

I got this cowl neck paneled sweater at the boutique near my work, Yamak. They always have interesting stuff - cool patterns and fabrics and stuff you won't find everywhere. This top is so soft and cozy and the panels add some interest and a bit of a utilitarian look which is kind of in right now a la Helmut Lang.

Paneled sweater (Annie C, $68)
Dark wash skinny jeans (BR, $89)
Black flat boots with buckle detail (Charles David, $250)

So at only $68 this top was a steal in my opinion with the amount of detail involved. That means I still have $632 left to spend this month! I may stop by Kate Spade tomorrow after Pilates. There should be some stuff on sale from Fall/Winter.

The antidote to Blurgh!!

After some internet searching I found the Phillip Lim top in my size and ON SALE ($320 down from $550). Of course I had to get it. This is exactly the kind of thing I should be getting. It's a standout and I can wear it with everything from jeans to skirts to dressy velvet pants. And yes, I own a pair of dressy velvet pants.

This eats up close to half of my new monthly clothing budget (more on that later) but so versatile and unique I think it's worth it. It's on sale at Barney's if you're interested.
